{"id":1148,"date":"2011-11-17T21:44:07","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T04:44:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/?p=1148"},"modified":"2011-11-17T21:44:07","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T04:44:07","slug":"wall-mini-band-scapular-retractions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/?p=1148","title":{"rendered":"Wall Mini-Band Scapular Retractions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shoulder impingement and scapular dysfunction are common issues that plague many clients. \u00a0Research indicates that certain muscles tend to dominate others while other muscles fatigue easily leading to faulty movement patterns and increasing the risk for impingement. \u00a0Muscle length and posture are also key factors to consider.<\/p>\n<p>I like to use a mini-band retraction with clients exhibiting excessive scapular abduction. \u00a0In the video below, you will see a simple, yet effective exercise to address this faulty alignment of the scapula. \u00a0Keep in mind, you must observe the client or patient from behind with the scapula exposed to properly assess alignment and movement.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kn-n1ner0sI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This exercise is designed to strengthen the middle trapezius and rhomboids. \u00a0In addition, it will improve scapular stability.
