{"id":21,"date":"2008-11-21T08:43:07","date_gmt":"2008-11-21T15:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/?p=21"},"modified":"2008-11-21T08:43:07","modified_gmt":"2008-11-21T15:43:07","slug":"my-aching-neck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/?p=21","title":{"rendered":"My Aching Neck!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">Well, I have to laugh to some degree when I experience an injury myself.\u00a0 I spend so much time helping clients overcome and prevent injuries that when I experience one I simply have to take it in stride find some humor in it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">You see, I suddenly had sharp pain in my neck 3 days ago.\u00a0 Keep in mind I suffered a high speed car accident about 4 years ago when I hit a concrete wall at 50 MPH on black ice.\u00a0 Not fun!\u00a0 Fortunately, I had no serious injuries, but did come away with chronic neck and back pain.\u00a0 So, if you ever wondered why people in car accidents complain if this, I can attest that it is very\u00a0REAL pain.\u00a0 One massage a month usually keeps my symtpoms in check.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">For the past 3 days I have had limited neck range of motion, throbbing pain in my neck that radiates down my right arm, as well as\u00a0interrupted sleep.\u00a0 But, the great thing is knowing exactly what is causing it.\u00a0 No doubts &#8211; a bulging disc in the cervical spine.\u00a0 Probably between C5 and C6.\u00a0 Why I\u00a0am\u00a0telling you\u00a0this?\u00a0 Simple.\u00a0 I wanted to let you know that it is really important to listen to your body and address problems right away.\u00a0 Since this rather unexpected onset of pain, I have taken 2 days off from working out and even stopped running.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">The running part\u00a0is especially tough as I am training for a 5K in 2 weeks as well as another half marathon in the Spring.\u00a0\u00a0But, early intervention is the key to avoiding long term pain and the surgeon (yikes).\u00a0 I am confident I will be back in action next week.\u00a0 Now, on to the meat of today&#8217;s post.\u00a0 As you know, I am releasing my new golf ebook soon (likely next week).\u00a0 So, I wanted to share a cool exercise with you that I use to warm-up my golfers prior to play.\u00a0 The warm-up is almost always ignored by golfers.\u00a0 Most think hitting balls on the range is the only warm-up they need.\u00a0 Wrong!\u00a0 Preparatory movement is key to injury prevention and performance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">The following dynamic warm-up movement is effective for loosenig up the groin, shoulders and torso in preparation for effective weight transfer during the swing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/golf-ebook014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22\" title=\"Golf Side Shift\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/golf-ebook014-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/golf-ebook014-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/golf-ebook014.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.brianschiff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/golf-ebook015.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">You can do this exercise in an alternating fashion left and right for 10-15 repetitions as part of a comprehensive warm-up.\u00a0 Stay tuned as I will be sharing more exercise from my book in the coming days as the launch nears.\u00a0 Have a great weekend!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I have to laugh to some degree when I experience an injury myself.\u00a0 I spend so much time helping clients overcome and prevent injuries that when I experience one I simply have to take it in stride find some humor in it.
